Attention! All Dragon RP Players! An Important Announcement!
Neh, hey all, I've been developing this system for many weeks now and was hoping to give it a try eventually to make sure it works correctly and is beneficial, understood, and helpful for all players and their role-playing in the community Dragon RP. This system is in accordance with physical challenges, social challenges, magical challenges, and mental challenges...

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

This is an online system that is meant for players who are in a dispute, argument, challenging situation that requires one contending over the other for systematic role-play. This can be done properly by using the mechanics of LJ! We could use a number system. We'll use the "Give me a number between X and Y" to start the process and once everyone has posted a number, it is up to the storyteller, or the one running the scene to reveal the number that was thought up at the start. The winner wins the challenge and gets to out-wit, out perform, damage, whatever it should be, in the game.

Here is an example: One LJ user's character wants to rapidly punch another LJ user’s character in the face because they just said something very offensive or whatever. The defensive LJ user's character will hopefully then declare that they will be too quick and move out of the way in time to miss the punch. The story teller or whoever is running the scene declares, "Call out your numbers, I am thinking of a number between 1 and 10. The offensive LJ user comments with their number between 1 and 10. The defensive LJ user then shall also comment with their number between 1 and 10, the order of commenting does not matter. When both players have submitted both of their numbers, the story teller shall reveal their number in a comment. The LJ user who is closest to the number shall fulfill their action successfully and the other shall fail. So if the offender has the closest number, they successfully punch the other defender in the face. If the defender has the closest number, they successfully will be too quick and move out of the way in time to miss the punch!

If there is a tie in numbers; let us say both LJ users comment and the storyteller declares a number that places both players in a tie by one number or how ever many, the challenge is a tie and a neutral effect will take place. So in our previous example: The offender would not punch the character, they would miss completely. And the defender would not be quick enough to move out of the way in time, they would trip or fall accidentally by losing balance or something of that nature. No one wins, no one gets hurt, and both fail the challenge. It will be up to the story teller or who ever is in charge of the scene to determine what the outcome is between the two characters when they tie, but it must be a neutral effect!

The odds are against you! Do note: The odds will be altered depending on the particular character challenging a particular character. For example: a kitten decides to jump at a fully grown and mature dragon and is going to bite for damage. Heh. Yeah right! Right? Well, to make things fair. The odds will be altered depending on the challenge. For example the storyteller will tell the LJ user playing the kitten to declare a number between 1 and 100. Then the storyteller will tell the LJ user playing the dragon to declare a number between 1 and 5. The odds are altered because obviously the dragon is a lot larger, powerful, and stalwart that the kitten and will easily win. The odds are still played out. The difficulty is raised based on the difficulty of the challenge. The storyteller or whoever is running the scene will be in charge with how difficult certain odds or certain challenges will be between two PCs, NPCs, what have you.

There are no retests! All results are final! And there is no need to create a whole new character sheet to declare your odds for nailing this with that. It is all determined by the storyteller or who is running the scene to lay down the odds, not the player. If there is a disagreement with the numbers used or a mistake in the numbers, reasoning can be worked out appropriately between the players and the storyteller O.O.C. so as to avoid an online fight or negative experience from role-playing.

“For the sake of story-line”. These number challenges are not always necessary. In fact they should only be used when there really is a dispute, argument, or challenge that must be dealt with the ‘odds are against you’ system. This community is meant for role-playing, not throwing numbers on a comment every five seconds! Usually when a story teller declares, for the sake of story-line he or she is trying to say, we don’t need any challenges or numbers involved, just play it out, solve the puzzle or dispute, and handle the situation. If numbers have to be involved though, then they will. Common sense says that a kitten can not take on a fully grown and mature dragon. It would be best to role-play out such scene together as fellow LJ users instead of always using number challenges over and over. If a story teller or another player declares for sake of story-line use your brain or role-play the sequence out as best you can.

“Let’s not be brutal!” The point of this community build by bicentennial76 is for everyone to have fun and enjoy themselves. There really is no reason to fight, yell, flame war, or swear at each other because of a disagreement of abilities, powers, or might. Take it to the ‘odds are against you’ system and just end it at that! Declare your numbers in the form of numbers and the winner wins fair and square. If there is a dispute that continues or discomforts the player, please bring it up to everyone or specific people immediately, please. We don’t want there to be bad blood or vendettas because of online fighting or arguing. We can all settle matters maturely and in an organized way. And I hope that this system will help with such possible future disputes.

Which brings me to my final point. This is not an official system or rule that we are going to start using effective immediately! This is something that must be in agreement with everyone who wishes to use or confirm with it. This means that I need everyone’s permission and agreement to set this system in motion. Please comment back to me on this post and let me know on your comments, concerns, questions, ideas, complaints, and disagreements, and feedback. It is very important to me that I discover everyone’s opinion on this idea! Do please at least comment back a vote for this system to be either set in action for role-playing or to decline it and say no, that’s too complicated! Since there are three active players so far, I shall need your votes and if anyone wishes to join up as well and start a new character, I’ll need your vote and confirmation for this system. Especially from bicentennial76, this is your community and I would most definitely need your permission to start such a system. In fact it will not even be activated without your approval! I promise you that!

I’m hoping it will be a fun experience, even without having to use such a system! But it was just an idea that was building up in the back of my head for some time now, and I just wanted to express it. So, please let me know on what you think and be honest! Thank you!

new dragonlover wishing to join.
hello, ash hear, I would love to join the comunity. I have read over the inital posts, and over you proposed system. I personally dont have any objection to it, though you may have to bare with me and explane it more as we go along, my dyslexic brain can get into awful twists.

other than that, I must declare also that I most likely wont be able to post every day, as I have little free time, but I will post at least twice a week at least.

if thats ok, Ill upload a character.

Welcome! Welcome!
Sounds great! Happy to have you aboard. The system will most likely be something that will take some trial runs and practice plays in order for the players to understand and become comfortable with. The truth is, I only want to use the system if it is totally necessary. Otherwise this community is meant for role-playing and interacting, not trying to win these number challenges every single action that is taken. A good reference would be all the progress that had developed between the current active players. Watch how we post to one another and continue a flow of story weaving rather than challenging each others ideas or might.

As for posting everyday, don't worry about it at all! This community as far as I've seen is not for us to be role-playing at a traditional level. Remember that this is LiveJournal and sometimes we don't have the time to always be updating ourselves online or pushing away our personal lives to game 24/7. No, not at all, treat this opportunity as an open door that is always open! Treat it like a Livejournal experience and post when ever you can get the chance.

Upload whenever you wish. The next step to uploading would be getting you integrated into the story-line. You have many options. You can start off your character elsewhere from the rest of us or you can find some way to jump in unannounced. It really is your choice. Also one of us could write up a story-line for you to follow through which would eventually weave its way into the other characters who are adventuring. Or you yourself could even write a plot line that would eventually have your character meet up with the others! It's your call! This is a very open idea community that welcomes your roleplaying experience entirely. Just make sure to let either myself or bicentennial76 know if you need a starting plot line for your character to begin in, or need help with anything at all to be more general! Thanks for joining up! Go ahead and post your character's stats as an entry when you are ready! I look forward to role playing with you! Welcome!

sounds good to me. i dont see any reason to get more in detail then you already have. keep it simple right? anyway its a good outline.
Shadowlight (Shad): Fam waving!drone_dragon on March 4th, 2006 12:56 pm (UTC)
Thanks Crys, keeping it simple is always the best approach. Hopefully their won't be much disagreement for us to have to use such a system, but you never know, neh?
Aliciabicentennial76 on March 4th, 2006 04:38 am (UTC)
i like the idea, especially for those characters who like to be hard to kill or attack. i think its more fair too ^_^ of course, i dont mind Mei being hurt, though i would be rather upset if she was killed and would really like to avoid it. Im mostly going to be roleplaying only her, and her one adventure be it with friden or another user. or several for that matter! But feel free to use it when the situation arises.

Im more of the type to describe what my character is doing and thinking. First person sorta deal, so i probably will avoid things like this. But like i said, i certainly dont mind.
Shadowlight (Shad): R.P.G. Wolf!drone_dragon on March 4th, 2006 01:05 pm (UTC)
I absolutely agree with you 100%. Another thing I don't want to see is characters dying left and right, battles being waged against impossible odds, and players strong enough to kill off other players with the wave of their hand. Role-playing is always the finest option a player can display, it shows how well they can handle a situation using their mind as well as their body to accomplish ideal tasks... especially survival.

I'm expecting all the players to continue the role-playing pattern quite fluidly, but if there does arise a situation of strong disagreement, an argument, or a fight, this system will help keep those rules fair & square for everyones benefit. Thank you for your approval though, after all it is what is most important in this community.
Aliciabicentennial76 on March 4th, 2006 06:27 pm (UTC)
well, i agree there too! ^_^ i think i should implement a few more rules to this sort of thing from another RP forum i use, like, every character should be able to be killed with a dagger to the heart *or brain* in one way or another, but they must be able to be physically killed. no immortal critters that can kill all with one fell swoop, like you said, killing Rpers chars all over the damn place! hehe

New dragon joining. .
I found this through Bicentennial76 posting in DAX.

The system sounds pretty good kind of like DnD (minus the dice rolling ^^)
Look forward to seeing it in the trial runs (after I upload my character which I need to do if I'm going to be able to participate ^^)

So I say hello out there.
Shadowlight (Shad): R.P.G. Wolf!drone_dragon on March 4th, 2006 01:13 pm (UTC)
Warm Welcome!
Hello, welcome to dragon rp! I am glad to hear that the system sounds appropriate to you as well! Hopefully we will not need to be using it unless we desperately need to solve a conflict, which hasn't been problem so far!

Yes, please upload your character whenever you feel ready! The next step to uploading would be getting you integrated into the story-line. You have many options. You can start off your character elsewhere from the rest of us or you can find some way to jump in unannounced. It really is your choice. I think the system would work out rather well, just as long as handicaps are given out as needed, i.e. your kitty/dragon scenario, where the dragon would obviously win, unless the kitty was some sort of cabbot that could manifest into a spaceship capable of entering and exiting the stratosphere with relative ease...then it might be a contest of who's guns are bigger.

But in any case, yes, I think the system will have it's benifits.

By the way, I'll have my profile up and running for you to view relatively soon, Myles. Sorry for the belated wait.

Most excellent! Post soon! Post soon! I have your starter story-line all set and ready for you as soon as you are ready! It will posted right after you've posted your character sheet as a entry!

BTW: Yesterday was a lot of fun, thanks for being there along with everyone else!
